Top 10 Cities Affected by Mold

Mold is a growing problem in the U.S. Listed below are 10 cities that those with a mold allergy should be concerned about.
Miami, FL
It may not surprise readers that Florida is the state with a big mold problem. Heat and humidity are known to provide an ideal breeding ground for mold, and the Sunshine State has both in abundance. Miami lies just a few miles from the Everglades, and features many older buildings that are not built to be mold-resistant.

Houston, TX
Houston is another city known for its heat and humidity, and most won’t be shocked to see that its one of the worst cities for mold. There is a city-wide effort to combat mold gaining steam in Houston, but the city has a long way to go.

Oklahoma City, OK
While Houston and Miami are well-known to have serious problems, Oklahoma City may surprise some with its inclusion on this list. While heat and humidity certainly worsen mold issues, certain types of mold are resistant to harsh conditions.

Charleston, SC
Charleston is located in an ideal climate for mold, but the climate is not the main factor in the city’s mold problems. The majority of buildings in Charleston are quite old and built in a manner where harmful mold can thrive.

Las Vegas, NV
The data regarding Las Vegas’ mold problem surprised many when revealed, including some experts. It is thought the problem exists because of the style of the city’s buildings (similar to Charleston).

Phoenix, AZ
As with Las Vegas and Charleston, buildings in Phoenix tend to be havens for mold. This is common in many cities with recent developments that were built quickly and may not have had the proper construction methods to avoid mold intrustion?

San Diego, CA
Another city traditionally known to have a mold problem is San Diego. The problem has improved in recent years due to building codes.

Sioux Falls, SD
Sioux Falls has a mold problem during the summer, when the weather is warm enough to support colonies of mold. Many homes in Sioux Falls are made of wood, where mold thrives in.
Memphis, TN
Memphis has been known to have a mold problem for a while, and many residents are criticizing the local government for their inaction. Stricter codes are in the works.

Lawrence, KS
This eastern Kansas town has a surprisingly humid climate, and can get hot in the summer. This allows mold to thrive.

It’s a good idea for people to have a home tested for mold before moving in. This should prevent problems in any location.
